The Top Three Things to Do in Spartanburg This Fall

Fall is a beautiful time of year to visit Spartanburg, South Carolina. As the temperatures cool and the leaves change colors, Spartanburg has lots of special activities going on. The nearby Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Byway offers visitors the chance to view the fall colors, and several special happenings in Spartanburg will provide fun activities for the entire family.

The Spartanburg International Festival will be held on October 2 in downtown Spartanburg's Barnet Park. For 25 years the festival has given Spartanburg the opportunity to celebrate its cultural diversity. South America will be the honored continent this year, represented by Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela. Festival attendees can stroll down the Avenue of Nations and learn about different cultures, taste exotic international foods, and sample beers and wines from around the world. Fair Trade exhibitors and vendors will showcase their folk art and commercial imports from around the globe. There will be cultural dancing, music, and other entertainment, as well as a Kids' Zone to provide fun activities for children.

The Piedmont Interstate Fair will take place at the Spartanburg Fairgrounds the week of October 11-17. The fair provides affordable family entertainment, with something for every age group to enjoy. The exhibit halls will feature art, photography, crafts, agricultural events, and flower shows. The midway will provide exciting rides. Plenty of entertainment is scheduled, with three different bands performing each night, as well as kid's shows. There will be elephant and camel rides, as well as a petting zoo. The fair has been a popular event in Spartanburg since 1946.

The Main Street Trolley Ghost Tour offers visitors a chance to get in the Halloween spirit. The tours depart each night in October at 7:00pm and 8:30pm from the Magnolia Train Station. The trolleys are replicas of vintage 1920s trolleys and are air conditioned and heated for comfort. The Ghost Tour visits some of the most haunted locations in Spartanburg, including the Magnolia Train Depot, the Old Spartanburg Grain Mill, and the Magnolia Cemetery. The tours include stories of actual ghost sightings, and present audio and photographic evidence of paranormal activity in the area.
